I'm Giving an AI $27 to Make Me Rich
By Scott Willson · 2026-10-08
Every day my timeline is full of some guy whose AI agent turned lunch money into a down payment while he slept, and every day I scroll right past it like a guy walking by a three card monte table on the boardwalk. That ends today, because as a public service to the Shockingly Famous audience I am actually going to follow through on one of these, put my own money in, and report back on whether I'm rich or whether I'm the idiot. Somebody has to take the bullet for the group and it might as well be me.
This one is a beauty. Cristal told the AI to turn $27 into $27,000 or it was getting shut down, and the robot apparently took that death threat seriously enough to pull a 1,006x by morning. It makes sense when the robotics company Figure has its robots jumping to their death into a fiery pit of molten steel. There's a whole crew working the night shift too, a brain named JEV who calls the shots and a squad named SCOUT, LEDGER, PULSE, FLUX and WARDEN, which sounds less like a trading bot and more like a GI Joe cartoon that got cancelled after one season. My favorite detail is the button at the top of the dashboard that says Replay Session, so the entire overnight miracle plays back in about 25 seconds, which is roughly how long it would take me to lose $27 on my own.
Here's what gets me though. If I had a robot that turned $27 into $27,000 while I slept, I would not be on X explaining to 44,000 people how to build the same one. I would be on a boat turning it into $27 million by Friday and you would never hear from me again. Nobody gives away a money printer unless they're selling the paper, and this post ends with “bookmark this before it's not early access anymore” and a promise that the platform launches in 1 to 2 days, which is exactly how every great investment opportunity of my life has been pitched to me.
So here's the plan. I'm putting my blind trust in Cristal, an account I know absolutely nothing about that is honestly more likely to be a bot than a financial guru, and when this thing launches I'm putting in the same $27, giving my agent the exact same threat, and going to bed. I'm doing it from a brand new wallet with nothing in it but that $27, because the one thing I know for sure about crypto is you never hand your real wallet to a website that launched yesterday. If I wake up to $27,000 I will apologize in writing and buy every single person reading this a drink. If I wake up to zero, it cost me less than a salad in West Hollywood and you all got the lesson for free. I'll report back soon on whether I'm rich or not.
