Bring Back Blockbuster
By Scott Willson · 2026-10-09
There was no better high as a kid in the 90s than Friday night at Blockbuster. You grab a pizza, you pile into the car, and you walk into that blue and yellow building with one job, which is to pick one movie, maybe two if your parents were feeling generous, to carry you through the whole weekend. The second those doors slid open the air even smelled different, like popcorn, carpet cleaner and a thousand plastic VHS cases, and you knew the weekend had officially started. You walked every aisle twice, you read the back of every box, and you prayed the new release wall still had one copy left.
Nobody scrolls Netflix for forty minutes and feels that. Streaming gave us every movie ever made and somehow took away the only part that mattered, which was the hunt. At Blockbuster you had to commit, and if you picked a dud you lived with it until Sunday, which honestly made you a better person.
So I'm proud to announce that Shockingly Famous is actively raising seed funding to bring Blockbuster back. My first thought was that we could just start opening video stores and slap the name on them, but it turns out Dish Network still owns the Blockbuster trademark, and honestly I thought Dish Network was more extinct than Blockbuster. In my world you either have DirecTV with a stupid satellite dish on top of your house, or dishes simply don't exist anymore.
So here's the deal, Dish. Either give it up or start putting Blockbusters back in every state in America, because you are sitting on the greatest brand of our childhood and doing absolutely nothing with it. Consider this your official verbal warning. If those blue and yellow signs don't start coming back, Shockingly Famous will be coming after you with a lawsuit, and our legal team is very strong and powerful.
